Rita Mitchell BA
I initially trained at Southport School of Art and worked at Strines Atelier at the Calico Printers Association in Manchester. I worked there as a designer colourist. The application of colour theory in all my paintings stems from this early experience.
I have a Lancaster University degree in Fine Art and English. Awarded 2.1 B A Hons.
I love writing about art and the following have been published:
A series of 4 articles entitled Aspects of Style, Jennings Literary Magazine
Article in THE TIMES HIGHER EDUCATION SUPPLEMENT entitled ‘Creation by Conception’.
Article ‘The Value of Art’ ‘THE ARTIST’ magazine.
From 1992 I concentrated on building up an Art Publishing Business. I have painted and published over 250 images. In 1993 I published my first ‘Wales in Watercolour’ calendar: this was established as an annual publication for fifteen years, selling nearly 20,000 copies in the final year of 2005. I have sold cards, prints and calendars at W H Smith, Boots, Tesco and Department Stores and Tourist attractions. During the same period, I exhibited in galleries in Lancashire, Birmingham, Nottingham and Wales including 6 solo exhibitions in Swansea and an exhibition in Osaka, Japan.
I have travelled extensively, which is of great value to an artist. I have original works in private collections in Australia, America, Canada and Japan and my published prints and calendars have been sent all over the world
Now free from commercial necessity I paint from a compulsion to share my vision of the world through my art. I love to paint a series of images on a particular theme. I am a fellow of the Nottingham Society of Artists and exhibit regularly with them. I am lucky to have a Studio/Gallery at my home in Attenborough where I can indulge my passion for painting. www.ritamitchellstudio.com
