William Grange
I am an amateur artist, specialising in paintings, mainly in chalk
pastel and acrylics of landscapes, mostly set in Britain,
especially my home county of Derbyshire. I live close to
Allestree Park on the northern fringe of Derby and this provides
much material for my artwork.
Before retiring in 2006, I used to be Curator of Natural History
at Derby Museum, where I painted the back-scenes for the
former Derbyshire Wildlife Gallery.
I am particularly fond of depicting trees, my favourite species
being the silver birch. I also revel in painting dramatic skies,
chalk pastels being a suitable medium for these.
My work is done in a tiny octagonal wooden gazebo, sited at
the back of my wildlife-friendly garden. In there I can escape
from any worries and immerse myself in the landscape I am
painting at the time.
