Lucy C Smith
I am a self-employed fine artist living on a Derbyshire smallholding.
In 2017 I graduated from Loughborough University School of Art with a First Class BA Hons degree in Fine Art. Since graduating, I commenced my creative career as a self-employed artist. Having gained a great deal of experience as a full-time artist, I have carried out countless commissions. Working in predominately acrylic and pencil, I specialise in portraiture, classic and vintage vehicles, seascape and landscape.
I started to make this collection of works as a sort of mourning for a time I have never known. A period of cultural idols, masterful musicians and landmark social alteration. Heavily influenced by a period spanning from as early as the 1930s to the 1980s, these art pieces pay homage to and celebrate these cultural icons. Invoking for many of the viewers, a nostalgic journey and a motivation to reflect. However, for the rest of us a dull yearning for a past we have not even experienced (anemoia). Observing ‘in action’ compositions and composed arrangements, energetic brushstroke background and crisp white backdrops. Through representational techniques in acrylic and pencil, I create instantly recognisable artworks. Instantly thought-provoking and instantly unifying, to remind ourselves of who came before.
